Ultrasound in the diagnosis of Giant Cell Arteritis
Ultrasound
The NCL Imaging Academy Team would like to invite you to an online session exploring the diagnosis of Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) with ultrasound. GCA is a rheumatological disease, and is considered an emergent condition; without near immediate diagnosis and treatment, it can lead to blindness and stroke. This course will provide you with an overview of the disease, describing the symptoms and pathophysiology, assessment methods as well as treatment options. It will prepare you to recognise the sonographic indicators of GCA.The course will be led by Angie White, Ultrasound Practice Educator for North Central London Imaging Academy. She has 20 years of experience with ultrasound, including vascular ultrasound. She developed the ultrasound diagnosis pathway within the Fast-Track GCA clinic at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, and has scanned patients for GCA for the last five years. The pathway won the STAR award for innovation of the year, and has save the local trust nearly £500,000 in biopsy costs. You will receive the appropriate Teams link on registration, and a CPD certificate upon completion of a feedback form.Audience: Open to all with an interest in Giant Cell Arteritis.Accessibility Support: Captions can be turned on in the session, anonymised options for participation, and please let us know if you need further support. We will try to accommodate. Please contact uclh.ncl-imagingacademy@nhs.net with any issues you may have with this course.
