This study day will provide a greater understanding of the role of radiology in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers and the role that diagnostic imaging plays within this. This one-day course is aimed at all radiographers, nurses, doctors and all other clinicians wanting to know more about the role of imaging in cancer care.

The NCL Imaging Academy Team would like to invite you to an online session exploring the diagnosis of Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) with ultrasound. GCA is a rheumatological disease, and is considered an emergent condition; without near immediate diagnosis and treatment, it can lead to blindness and stroke. This course will provide you with an overview of the disease, describing the symptoms and pathophysiology, assessment methods as well as treatment options. It will prepare you to recognise the sonographic indicators of GCA.The course will be led by Angie White, Ultrasound Practice Educator for North Central London Imaging Academy. She has 20 years of experience with ultrasound, including vascular ultrasound. She developed the ultrasound diagnosis pathway within the Fast-Track GCA clinic at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, and has scanned patients for GCA for the last five years. In ‘plain film’ radiography, many determinants of image quality are controlled by the radiographer. This programme will include exploring the expectation of engagement and involvement of patient and families following an adverse patient event, requiring breaking of bad news – both from an organisational perspective and linking back to Patient Safety and Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), with a particular focus on compassionate engagement with patients and their families in imaging. This programme will include an afternoon which will be built around clinically specific scenarios, to enable staff to apply theory into practice in a psychologically safe environment.This programme will be led and facilitated by AQUA staff who have experience and expertise in PSIRF, compassionate engagement and undertaking Engagement Lead roles. The BSNR is delighted to announce that from January 2025, an annual programme of NHSE-funded monthly online teaching sessions will begin. Each themed session will run on the morning of the 4th Thursday of each month. The programme is targeted at ST1-3 registrars, and all UK trainees are encouraged to attend. The NCL Imaging Academy Team would like to invite you to two online sessions around Ultrasound Reporting. They will complement each other, but there is no requirement to attend both sessions. The ultrasound report forms the legal documentation of the ultrasound examination, and poor quality of reports can affect patient outcomes due to unclear communication of the examination findings. Session One: Best Practice in Ultrasound Report-Writing. 9th July 12-13.00. Guidance from the SoR, BMUS and RCR will be reviewed and explored, along with tips for structure and terminology to appropriately guide the patient pathway. An element of the session will be an interactive workshop to development your skills in report-writing. It is suggested (but not required) to bring a few examples of your reporting (they must be anonymised- no patient data please).Session Two: Using Generative AI to enhance Ultrasound Report-Writing. 16th July 12-13.00. This interactive workshop will be centred around how you can use Generative AI to enhance your reports. It will focus around the practical application, critical analysis of the outputs, and ethical considerations when using GenAI in reporting. It is suggested that you have some experience with writing reports; please bring a few examples of your reporting (they must be anonymised- no patient data please).The course will be led by Angie White, Ultrasound Practice Educator for North Central London Imaging Academy and a lecturer and module lead with Brunel University of London.
